Minutes, Board Meeting 20 May 2009

The meeting was called to order at the Showcase Building, Event Center on the Beach at 1300. In attendance: Stansell, Spicer, Peterson, Eide, Davis, Sayler, Allen and Cyparski.

  • Minutes from April 29 and May 13 were reviewed and approved as submitted.
  • Treasurer report reviewed at May 13 meeting was approved as submitted.
  • Rotary Members Sayler, Margolis and Dave Little will provide homes for this year's Exchange Student. Stansell suggested coordinating with other members to provide opportunities for field trips beyond Gold Beach. Davis offered trip to central Oregon and Portland.
  • Spicer will attend District Conference on Saturday. Peterson not sure will be able to attend due to medical appointment. Emily Francona would like pictures to promote Gold Beach projects. Connie Sayler may assist with Jim Coffee's photos. Allen will provide easel for display.
  • The Gold Beach Rotary Club Presidency will be officially turned over to John Spicer on June 17th, one week earlier than usual due to our current president being out of town.
  • Rotary of Gold Beach is behind schedule on their bi-annual road clean-up project. Russ Merkley coordinates the project but has been preoccupied with new job. Eide/Stansell will contact Russ to schedule/organize clean-up.
  • Aprons are washed and ready for the 4th of July Party at the Park Beer Garden Fundraiser. Pennies for Pouches will serve Hot Dogs. Davis offered Popcorn Machine and will follow-up with Chetco Federal Credit Union for popcorn donation.
  • According to Patty Slagle of The Gold Beach Community Fund, they never got confirmation for the Snack Pack program. Money this year will go to "Curry Cares for Kids". Cyparski will fill out the paperwork noting that Thrivent Lutheran Financial matches funds for the program.
  • Edsel Colvin is considering terminating his membership. It was proposed to move Mr. Colvin's Rotary Status from active to "honorary" member due to his length of service in the organization. It was agreed that Edsel will be an "Honorary" Rotarian if he chooses to continue to be involved with Gold Beach Rotary.
  • Ed Frazier has not been attending weekly meetings since High on Health. Eide volunteered to approach Ed to inquire about his concerns.
  • Ron Dunlap is a "Roaming" Rotarian. An official member of Rotary in Port Townsend, WA, Ron is a regular at our meetings in Gold Beach while he constructs a home here. It was agreed Mr. Dunlap will get a Gold Beach Rotarian Badge so he will feel more part of our community and not have to be introduced as a guest each week.
  • Mark Sayler's membership was paid in Ashland this year but was transferred to Gold Beach when he relocated to the area.
  • Meeting was adjourned at 1323.

Respectfully Submitted
Deborah Cyparski
Secretary
